FAQ's

  1. How are the IMI International Top 20 Singles charts different from other published music charts?

The IMI International Top 20 Singles chart is the first official industry recognised music chart to be launched in India. IMI works in tandem with the record labels to set rules and standards to ensure a consistent as well as fair formulation of the charts. The IMI charts committee will continue to monitor, assess and improve the chart rules to ensure that the charts are reliable and credible. The aim of the IMI International Top 20 chart is to provide an accurate reflection of consumers choices under the set IMI Top 20 international chart rules as well as to encourage and facilitate discovery through the introduction of a dynamic chart. The IMI International Top 20 chart achieves dynamism in the chart through a set of rules such as:
Day ‘0’ Concept – tracks that have a strong stream performance such that they would be included in the chart, but are more than 78 weeks old (release date) on the date of publishing the first chart will be deemed to be ineligible for a chart run*. However, singles that meet certain exceptions, such as first instance of charting since its release (e.g., Play Date by Melanie Martinez), renewed interest and consumption on account of a new cultural or online/ social trend (e.g., Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes) and seasonal/holiday tracks can be deemed to be chart eligible.

Retirement of Singles – A track can chart for a maximum of 78 weeks. However, a track that has had a chart run for 52 weeks but has fallen to a position not within the Top 50 (not published publicly) for four consecutive weeks will be retired from the chart.

      *What is a Chart Run?
A chart run is the number of consecutive weeks spent in the chart since the first time it charted. A track can have multiple chart runs.

  2. How are the IMI International Top 20 Singles calculated each week?
The weekly IMI International Top 20 Singles charts reveal the top singles on 3 major international streaming services in India – Amazon Music, Apple Music and Spotify. The charts are compiled by BMAT (www.bmat.com), a Barcelona based audio technology company, using a set industry ratio between a premium stream and an ad-funded stream to arrive at the weighted stream count of a track.

The IMI International Top 20 Singles only tracks the dominant form of music consumption – streams which include ad-funded, premium as well as bundled streams.
