Resonate: The EDM Challenge

Introduction

On the occasion of the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES). “The Indian Music Industry (IMI)” is pleased to collaborate with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) and organise Resonate: The EDM Challenge as part of the “Create in India Challenge” 

The WAVES is a premier global event bringing together visionaries, creators, and leaders from the audio and video entertainment sectors. Under the aegis of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and in collaboration with the Indian Music Industry, Resonate: The EDM Challenge will serve as a key highlight of the Summit. It reinforces India’s position as a leading destination for music fusion, electronic music and the overall art of DJing. 

Objective

Resonate: The EDM Challenge aims to spotlight and celebrate global talent in production of Electronic Dance Music (EDM), fostering collaboration, innovation, and creativity in music production and live performance. This initiative aligns with the “Create in India” mission, showcasing India as a hub for global creativity and entertainment.

Competition Details

Eligibility:

  • Open to artists, composers, musicians, and performers from any country who have prior experience in creating and producing Electronic Dance Music.
  • The theme of the competition is “Resonate: The EDM Challenge” focusing on the use of Global music styles to create a cohesive and culturally rich musical piece.
  • The Competition to allow submissions from Individual creators and Creative Teams. The team shall have a maximum of three members.
  • The competition will unfold across two stages, the Preliminary stage and the Finale stage (live performance).
  • The eligibility criteria for participation and submission of entry will be shared with the participants in a detailed manner as part of the Terms and Conditions.

Format:

  • Preliminary Round:
  • Participants will submit their EDM tracks for evaluation. The submission will made online as per the Terms and Conditions.
  • An expert panel from the Indian music industry will assess the submissions by the participants and shortlist the top 10 entries.
  • Final Round (Live Performance)
  • The top 10 participants will be invited to perform live at the WAVES event.
  • Each performer will have 10 minutes to showcase their talent using the provided equipment.
  • The performances will be judged live by a panel of renowned experts from the music industry.

Judging Criteria

The performances will be evaluated based on:

  1. Creativity and originality in music production.
  2. Positivity
  3. Music Qualities that promote values of respect, love, equality, diversity, universality and unity
  4. Stage presence
  5. Technical proficiency in live performance.
  6. Overall impact and alignment with EDM’s core themes.

Prizes and Recognition:

  • Grand Prize Winner:
  • Proposed Cash Prize
  • Feature in summit promotional materials and social media
  • Runner-Up Prizes: Two Runner Ups
  • Proposed Cash Prize Amount
  • Recognition on the summit website and social media

Important Timelines for Participants:

27th January 2025 – Rules of the Competition are live including Terms and Conditions for the Participation in the Competition and Criteria for Participation.n

1st February to 10th March, 2025 – Registrations to go live 

1st April 2025 – List of Top 10 participants will be shared with MIB
